Throwbot Conversion Kits

Recon Robotics Throwbot conversion kits are modular kits that let you reconfigure a Throwbot 2 base robot into alternative tactical configurations—such as rugged-terrain (Rugged XL), payload carry/tow (Carry & Tow), or a combined Deluxe setup—by replacing wheels, tails, and adding mounting hardware to extend its capabilities beyond the standard platform.

The Rugged XL Conversion Kit (RXL) provides the RXL style wheels and tail necessary to convert a Throwbot® 2 base robot into the Rugged XL configuration. All necessary tools for performing the change are included in the kit. The extra terrain configuration is designed to allow the system to climb over 4″ / 10 cm obstacles.

The Carry and Tow Conversion Kit (CT) is designed to allow the system to transport up to 2 lbs (0.9 kg) mounted on top of the robot while towing up to 2 lbs (0.9 kg) behind. Some weight must be mounted on top of the robot in order to tow a full 2 lbs (0.9 kg), because wheel traction is increased with carried weight. When the Picatinny Rail and/or any payload is attached, the robot should not be thrown or dropped – this can result in damage or in the robot being unable to right itself if it lands upside-down.

The Deluxe Conversion Kit provides the contents of both the Rugged XL Conversion Kit and Carry and Tow

Recon Robotics Throwbot Accessories

Recon Robotics Throwbot accessories include items like the Recon Scout SearchStick Pole for turning the robot into a pole-mounted camera, audio/video out cabling, and command monitoring gear to extend functionality in tactical reconnaissance missions.

The Recon Scout SearchStick pole is a novel device that allows tactical and patrol operators to instantly convert any Throwbot 2 robot into a pole camera. Simply grasp the Throwbot 2 robot in the powered jaws of the pole and extend the pole to the necessary length. The robot will then transmit live video of the environment to the handheld operator control unit II (OCU II).

The MOLLE Tactical Pack allows an operator to carry one Recon Scout® or Throwbot robot and one Operator Control Unit II (OCU II) or OCU Classic. The pack utilises standard MOLLE style webbing to enable mounting on a variety of vests or backpacks. The pack features corded zippers that enable a tactical operator to quickly open the bag and deploy the system. An internal clip can be used to automatically pull the activation plate from a Throwbot 2 robot as it is removed from the bag. The OCU can be removed by activating a quick release clip or can remain attached to the pack while it is in use, enabling one operator to control the robot and see its video transmission while a second operator provides protective cover. The Pack is available in black or MultiCam.

The Tether Reel enables you to quickly attach a tether to the tail of the Throwbot 2 robot and let out line as the robot is dropped into a vertical shaft or over a wall. Once reconnaissance has been completed, the tether reel allows you to quickly retrieve the robot and stow the tether for re-use. (Image Tether Reel)

The Command Monitoring Station (CMS) enables the video and audio1 transmissions from a Throwbot XT reconnaissancerobot to be pulled into your command post fromup to 1,000 feet (305 metres) away. By using the CMS 2.0, you can see and hear precisely what your frontline personnel see and hear from their handheld Operator Control Unit II (OCU II) as they direct the movement of their robots and conduct tactical operations. This real-time video and audio lets you coordinate tactical and search-and-rescue operations and provide an integrated response to any situation.
